How to Help

In 5 minutes or less...

Complete the Join the Friends form on our website.  This is the quickest but most important thing to do. Then we can present exact numbers to the Council and the owner of the Meredith Lot.  We can also get in touch with you to pass on important information or to reach you if urgent action is needed (like signing a Register in person). Your info will not be distributed and we won’t spam you, emails will be very limited.

Join our Facebook Group and chime in on the conversation to help us stay high in the Algorithms so other people will see our group too and it will help raise awareness. https://www.facebook.com/groups/1483813599239354

Invite friends and neighbours to complete the Join the Friends Form on our website and Join the Facebook Group by using the “Invite” or “Share” buttons top right hand of the Group page under the banner.

In 60 minutes or less...

Write a letter to your councilor, cc: the Mayor and other councilors as well as our Director General, Sheena Ngalle Miano. Remember, they have been elected to represent you, so express your concerns in a respectful, collaborative way. Tell them why stopping this development matters to you.  Some points you might include are:

  • Intact canopy and wetlands are valuable to climate change resiliency and large ecosystems are dwindling and becoming fragmented by development

  • You want wild spaces like the Meredith Lot to protect wildlife

  • You want to maintain the Rural forested look and feel in our community

  • This potential development is outside of the Urban Core where densification was proposed

  • The Master Plan had public consultation, but the public has not been consulted or notified about this potential zoning change

  • There is not an up-to-date ecological survey of what will be lost if this property is developed

  • The aquifer is fragile and would probably not be able to support the proposed densification.

  • Large forested lots of intact mature forest like the Meredith Forest are more ecologically valuable than fractured green spaces between housing

Take your dog, your kid, your partner or a neighbour for a walk through your neighbourhood. Tell as many neighbours as possible about the zoning change and potential development project.  Lots of information and links are on our site https://foretmeredithforest.wixsite.com/afm-fmf/join-the-friends so you don’t need to know all the info, just point them towards our site.
